Your Body Was Made to Thrive: Here’s How to Nourish It

Sis, you were not designed for survival mode.
Your body was made for thriving.

The truth is, many of us are moving through the world feeling exhausted, inflamed, foggy, and off-balance — and often blaming ourselves for it. We've been told our health struggles are inevitable because “that’s just how our bodies are” or “it runs in the family.”

Here’s the truth:

  • Your body is brilliant. Your genes are not your destiny.

  • How we eat can either block that brilliance… or help it flourish.

You Are Not Your Genes

If you’ve ever been told that high blood pressure, diabetes, or PCOS is just “in your bloodline,” I want you to know about something powerful: epigenetics.

Epigenetics is the science of how lifestyle impacts which genes are turned “on” or “off.” That means:

  • You can turn off genes that fuel inflammation and disease

  • You can turn on genes that support healing and hormone balance

  • You can shift your own health and influence the health of future generations

💥 Genes load the gun. Lifestyle pulls the trigger.

This is where food becomes more than fuel — it becomes medicine, support, and restoration.

What’s Throwing Us Off Balance?

Through my work with SoulMed and my own healing journey, I’ve identified six key factors that sabotage our health — and what we can do about them.

1. Too Much Sugar & Processed Carbs

White bread, pasta, crackers, and even “healthy” cereals break down into sugar in the body. Over time, this leads to blood sugar crashes, weight gain, inflammation, and fatigue.

Simple shift: Swap out refined carbs for leafy greens, berries, and root veggies like sweet potatoes.

2. Industrial Seed Oils

These oils — like canola, corn, soybean, and sunflower — are found in most packaged foods and restaurant meals. They disrupt hormones and literally become part of your cells in ways that lead to inflammation and disease.

Simple shift: Use olive oil, avocado oil, or coconut oil instead. Always check labels.

3. Damaged Fats vs. Healing Fats

Your brain is nearly 60% fat. Your hormones are built from fat. Your cells need it — but only the right kind.

Simple shift: Add more raw nuts, fatty fish, avocado, and grass-fed butter to your meals.

4. Toxins in Food

The U.S. allows over 3,000 additives and sprays 3 million tons of pesticides annually. Many are banned in Europe.

Simple shift: Start buying organic versions of the “Dirty Dozen” fruits and veggies. Detox your pantry and focus on whole, unprocessed food.

5. GMOs

Genetically Modified Organisms are plants engineered to survive heavy chemical spraying. Corn, soy, and canola are some of the most common — and they’re in everything.

Simple shift: Look for organic or non-GMO verified products, especially oils and packaged snacks.
