When we were little, the block wasn't just where we lived. It was where we found community.
Where we laughed until the streetlights came on. Where somebody's mama fed everybody. Where friendships formed, stories were shared, and everyone had a place.
This August, we're bringing that feeling back.
Building the Block is the next BLKGRL Recess experience, a chance for Black women to slow down, reconnect, and help create the kind of community we all deserve.
Even if it's just for a day.
WHAT TO EXPECT
We're building our block one experience at a time.
Expect nostalgic games, creative activities, beauty experiences, good food, meaningful conversations, and space to simply enjoy being surrounded by Black women who are choosing joy on purpose.
You'll also help create a collaborative community art installation that will continue to grow throughout the Building the Block series.
Every woman leaves her mark.
Because every woman belongs on the block.

Building the Block doesn't end in August.
We're adding another piece to the neighborhood together before bringing everything we've built to life at BLKGRL Recess: Block Party on September 13, a celebration of community, connection, and the women who helped build it.
