SoulMed(icine) Spiritual + Mental Well-Being
Resource Guide

The foundation of good health is a positive mindset. Having a positive mindset ::

  • Reduces in anxiety.

  • Improves moods.

  • Provides clear thinking.

  • Offers a greater sense of calm + inner peace.

  • Increases self-esteem.

  • Reduces risk of depression.

  • Improves relationships.

In addition to traditional therapies to help manage your spiritual and mental well-being - like a good church sermon and an hour on a therapist’s couch - several apps can be helpful. The added benefit of these tools is that you can have them with you at all times and use them when you need a little spiritual or mental pick-me-up. The following list has been curated especially for Black women.

  • Awakenings :: A daily spiritual coaching app by Iyanla Vanzant. The app offers principles that uplift you to live your best life with Iyanla’s powerful coaching.

  • Shine :: Created by two minority women, this app aims to make caring for mental health easier and more inclusive, with meditation and affirmation tools designed to help you rest, heal, and grow.

  • Liberate Meditation :: A guided meditation app created for BIPOC to ease anxiety, find gratitude, and heal.

Journaling is a powerful healing practice that helps improve mental clarity, focus, and understanding. Through consistent journaling practice, you can explore your emotions, connect with hidden feelings and set your goals to paper. There is no one way to the journal; journaling can take many forms.

Consider these journaling apps ::

  • 5-Minute Journal :: An easy to use 5 minutes a day gratitude journal right on your phone. You can add photos, view entries in a timeline, and set daily reminders.

  • Grateful (available only to Apple users on iPhone or iPad) :: An app to make expressing gratitude in your life both easy and fun, as well as to remind you, during those down moments, of the many blessings in your life.

Journaling can also be done by ::

  • Write Morning Pages. A practice developed by Julia Cameron, Morning Pages is three pages of longhand, stream-of-consciousness writing done first thing in the morning.

  • Online journaling. Creating an online journal allows you to type your thoughts anytime, anywhere, from any device.

  • Guided journal prompts with pen and paper. Use guided journal prompts like the SoulMed Soul Therapy Guided Journal Prompts. Guided journaling helps you focus your thoughts and process them. They can help get you started on evaluating various aspects of your life and help guide you as you build your goals, including improving your relationships and self-care, health, and wellness routines.
